Présentation
L'École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales (Paris), l’Istituto Italiano di Scienze Umane (Florence), la London School of Economics et le Max-Planck-Institut für Europaïsche Rechtsgeschichte (Frankfurt-am-Main), se sont accordées pour constituer un cycle d'études doctorales en cultures juridiques européennes dans le cadre de l'action Marie Curie, programme "Early Stage Training", de la Commission européenne (6e programme cadre).
"We wanted to train a generation of European lawyers who would not be restricted to the confines of their technical training, but would receive in parallel a broader training in social sciences (history, sociology and anthropology).
This has been a very enriching and new experience for the students and for us: prior to this there was no integrated taught doctorate in Europe, at least not in the field of law and social sciences. An integrated course, that is to say a jointly taught course that assumes a minimum of organisation in terms of mobility.
Our aims remains basically the same, namely to offer twenty European students of law and social sciences mobility scholarships for doctorates split among four locations (Paris, London, Frankfurt and a federation of Italian universities within the Istituto Italiano di Scienze Umane, based in Florence and Naples) at which the courses offered would complement each other perfectly. Our proposal provides that each student should, over the three years of his/her scholarship, spend time in three of the four locations participating in this joint doctorate programme. It is a proposal for truly integrated doctoral studies. Three-year mobility scholarships are perfectly suited to the needs of such a proposal. Such was already our project three years ago, but existing funding programmes didn't meet its requirement."
